I built all the tierods and drag link myself out of 1 1/2" .250 wall DOM. I got the arms off ebay and bought the reamed pitman arm from Mike at Completeoffroad.com. Ive probably got $400 in everything.
I see that the highboy steering box is alot farther forward than the 78-79s. I hope you dont have any trouble. Ive got 1 arm and a $100+ tie rod sitting useless in my shop.
I got $530(cnd) into my kit it came with everything i needed. They first sent the arms and tie rod ends i made a measurement then they made the draglink and sent it. The arm on the driver side is short so it will clear the draglink it'll be fine. U got a pic of the passenger side arm???
73 Ford guy, I am running the stock set up. I have been searching for the correct way to fix this problem I have, but very seldom it seems that you ever run across people with the good ole' trucks. I'm fairly new at the 4x4 game, mainly stuck with cars and boats, but now I found a new way to have some fun just need a push in the right direction. Any advice will be appreciated.
do you have the axle locked up as well? Curious to know if you've run it in 4x4 and had any stub shaft problems??
I had to move my shock to the rear of the axle as well.
I have 4.56 gears, a detroit locker, 35 spline 4340 non neckdown inner shafts, 35 spline 4340 outer stub shafts spicer life series cryo'd joints and warn 35 spline hubs. So far the front axle has laughed at everything a 500hp 460 and 38" tires could throw at it. The D60 rear is another story....
In the pic below you can see how much beefier the 35 spline stuff is than stock.
Thats the next thing i'm going to change on the front end. You changed the inners as well there pretty damn tuff just stock though i was planning just to upgrade the outer stubs new u joints and upgrade to warn lock outs. Thats when i finish rebuilding my 390. This thing is gonna cost me some serious coin when i'm done with it. Better start livin on hot dogs and chili. Ol' lady might not wanna smell under the covers
The 35 spline stock inners neck down to as small as D44 shafts just after the splines. With a nutsy motor 44s and a locker Id be a little wary on stock shafts.
4340 is the way to go if youve got the $$.
I havent added it up myself but the guys in the offroad forum have and a rebuilt D60 like this will cost you ~$4g
Im using 5-806X Spicer life series joints. To my knowledge thats the biggest joint that can be used.
There is a company that uses a massive 1480 (I think) u joint but you have to modify everything. New Cs new knuckles new shafts everything. I dont think its worth it for your application. Superior shafts and CTMs will be all you need and the plus side if you manage to break one they will 1000% warrantly it. Even if you were being stupid
