I saw them before the holidays and am thinking of getting one myself but just wanted to know how big a diameter they have and if they will interefere with the tstat housing on my cleveland since the housing sits straight up. They do look pretty good.
I don't know anything about the quality. I've thought about one of these but probably won't pull the trigger. My concern is not t-stat clearance, but air cleaner clearance. They are substantially taller than the Duraspark distributors. And I don't know about the advance curves in these which is another unknown for me as I have retained the EGR system on my engine.
wow , thats cheap. Ive read somewhere in this forum that they work fine, If you kept your egr it should be fine, im concerned about not having an egr since the vacum advance should be adjustable to avoid pinging....
I may be considering getting one of these due to the cheap price though....
i replaced my dizzy with a pro comp and it seems to be a good piece. i agree with not knowing how its curved but thats about the only problem ive had. my clearence was real close but i have a 1.5" spacer on a edelbrock intake and a k and n air filter. this is about 1mil from hitting the dizzy.
procomp is a good dizzy...tmi sells the pro modeli think for a few bucks more.
I have 3 hei units and willuse them whenever possible...air cleaner is the only issue and I use a spacer over carb under cleaner...
good units imo. Doesn't retard timing on restart like stock but I haven't yet noticed an issue starting except when i throw a rod or something.
caution they run out of them and can be difficultto find for several months as procomp only makes a certain amount per run etc. and that is a good deal...i'd get another if i had a use for it.
I put one on my truck. I was already running a 2" spacer between my carb and intake, so had no clearance issues. I just need to adjust the timing curve a little bit, noticed a decrease in fuel economy when i put it in.
how much of a decrease in mpg? also please explain what you plan to do when you curve the distributor... thanks.
I don't have a benchmark but am getting over 15 general use mpg in my 83 bronco with the wheezer build. it was nice ripping the tonnage of wires and computer. but also put on 289 heads which increased compression and flow but maintained stock cam for the 83. have a comp dual energy to put in it when i take it out to put into my daughters 70 1/2 falcon/torino.
Fuel economy dropped 1-2 MPG, but who knows if it was just coincidence with fuels getting crappier.
For the tuning of the advance... i was going to talk to some GM guys. They do sell all different plates, springs, weights, and even adjustable vacuum advance canisters like they do for the duraspark unit. Not sure if they all work with the pro-form, but im willing to try.
does anybody have a picture of one on an engine so we could see how big these thing are? I was thinking of putting one on a 351C but with it setting up front and setting tall does it look ????????????
Dont pay attention to the mess of wiring on the inner fender..lol.. Had to chase a bad fusable link at the begining of winter, and havnt had the chance to re-loom it all up.
