the other day my nephew and co-pilot noticed water dripping from around the inside of the top part of the windshield. I thought it was only condensation that had accumulated and dripped, but after looking at the worsening problem the top part of the windshield can be pushed out almost 1/2 an inch.
is their a TSB or recall on this ? (will ford fix for free ?) can i use RTV and glue it back in ?
any experience with this OR has this ever happened to you ?
nope they consider it a tsb if you have a esp which on your year if you got an extended warr it should be covered if you didn't they leave it up to you.
yeah, just found the uber-cool, very handy TSB/Recall feature of this site. read up on it, ford will caulk the windshield to seal it, that's what i'll do, i guess, thanks for the help...
Do yourself a big favor and take it to the glass shop. They can pop the entire windshield out and reseal it from the back side like it is supposed to be. It may be leaking in other areas that you dont even see. Might want to pull your carpets up and check under them. Most times the leak is not enough to soak through the insulation so the carpet will not feel wet but the floor and insulation under the carpet will be. With windshield leaks the water tends to find its path along the body down the firewall and under the rugs without your knowledge. Good luck.
so are you saying you have the original windshield from 1999 in your truck?? If not, sounds like whoever put the last windshield in it didnt use pinchweld primer or glass primer and the urethane didnt stick. It will have to be cut back out and properly put back in.
Also, apparently if you are in a crash and the airbags go off with a loose windshield, it will blow out the windshield and you lose the benefit of having an airbag.
When they replace the windshield, if they don't put cotton gloves on, the oil from their fingers interferes with the glue/sealant, and can cause the above problem.
