Hit the button and got nothing. Have not had a chance to look at it but I was hoping you guys can lead me in the right diretion. I hopeing for a common problem thats a easy cheap fix. I sure if one exist you guys will know about it.
Make sure your parking brake pedal is all the way up. my CC wont work if the pedal is not all the way to the top. could be other thing but check it out.j
The clock spring referred to in other posts is the contact mechanism behind the horn button that takes the signals from the button on the steering wheel into the computer.
Here are three relevant schematics
There are 2 brake activated switches. One is used for turning on the stop lamps, and is also monitored by the computer to kill the cruse. The second is a backup switch, that opens when brake pressure is present. BTW - that second switch is the one that is affected by the Ford recall.
The warning lamp circuit will also disable CC. This can be turned on by the parking brake, low fluid level, or low vacuum. You can rule all of those out by checking to see if the brake light comes on when the park brake is on (to make sure the bulb works) and goes out when the brake is off. If it doesn't, your problem is probably there.
Stupid question but have you checked your fuses? I also have a CC problem. Mine works fine until I turn on the blinker and it shuts off like I hit the brake. I believe my problem is from the multifunction switch. Sometimes when I turn on the blinker the light on the dash doesn't blink and the front light doesn't blink either but the rear does. And sometimes when I turn it on the dash light blinks and front and rear blink like normal. That is the reason I am going with multiswitch...Comments?
neal I think yours is a short, when you apply the brakes the CC shuts off well the blinker uses the same light as the brake light so if you are getting feed back the brake sensor that shuts the cc off could be getting energized by the blinker light causing it to turn off
As for my take on the scatgos problem, check your brake sensor that it is working properly and if you have manual make sure your clutch position sensor is working properly.
now that I think about it I believe one of the places the short can happen is in the multi function switch, I had an issue with mine but was able to clean contacts and it was ok.
Oh thanx. Maybe I will try that before I buy a new one. Then again if they are not that much$$$ who knows. This thing is 11 years old and 164k on the odo. Thanks for the guidance.

Turn on the blinker and go look at the third brake light. If it's blinking, the multi-function switch is the problem. It has a set of contacts that disconnect the blinker circuit from the brake wire. If that contact isn't opening, it will cause several problems. #1 CC won't work, as you noticed. You'll also get a lock-unlock sequence on the torque converter, and pulsing trailer brakes if you're using electic trailer brakes.
