you know what... regardless of how cold it gets, i'm really enjoying saskatchewan just like i love the Rock. lots of variation in weather... keeps a person on your toes...
well...they haven't really been right about the winter... we haven't got lots of snow yet. it really hasn't been that cold for more than a couple of days...
Thats why my house is on top of a small ridge. But my quonset is built in a low area near a slough in the neighboring property.
My one neighbor has his home built in a low area of their yard. They have no basement, but the yard is a soggy mess every spring and heavy rain shower.
Where my house is right now its on a small hill type deal too. The place where Im building is pretty close so I wont have to worry about the water at all, hopefully.
my basement is below grade with the floor poured between the footings instead of over the footings which means i get water seeping up through the seam where the floor meets the footing. i might pour a 2 inch slab to make it right, but not certain on that yet...
Also weeping tiles are needed. Even on acreages now they want weeping tiles connected to your septic tanks. I put mine to a lower down drain, below the basement floor with crushed rock in a pit at the end of the hose.Put it about 20 feet from the house. It was acceptable. It is to help take water away fromthe foundation.
i'm afeared i don't have any weeping tile either, but i won't be tackling that any time soon. with the sump pumps in there its usually not too bad anymore... the first spring was a nasty suprise!!
