So im havin problems with my four wheel drive. It just wont engage like it should. It takes a while to lock in if im at a slow speed.(under ten mph) Sometimes you can hear it grind and the truck kinda jerks. And other times it wont disengage rite away. I have a transfer case lever not the switch on the dash if that helps at all. I really dont know how the front axle system works, so any info you gys can shere will help out alot. Thanks.
on the front differential you have a vac pot with a rod in it . try freeing it up with wd40 and the put white lith grease from a spray can this might help. if their not used for a while the weather gets to them and they tend to freeze up
Yes lube up that Vacum actuator,,also some WD-40 on your 4x4 shifter linkage, will help the shifter move,,my sons was some hard to shift,,sprayed,,worked it,,much better. When you shift it in 4x4H or Low,,,do the Dash lights come on ??
If they dont come on,,you will need to replace the Lock out switch (oil switch), on the transfere case,,has a 2 wire plug,, coming out of it $36 ! My son's 01 F-150 would not go into 4x4,,this was the problem,,nice cheap fix !
There are also vacum solenoids behind the battery on the firewall,,,checkout the vacum hoses, connections there.
