I need some computer help. My wife has somehow made the on screen magnifier pop up when the computer starts on her Gateway laptop. She doesn't know how she did it, and I can't figure out how to make it not start automatically.
If I gor Start>Programs and then startup it says empty. If I look under the startup tab in MSConfig, I don't see anything that looks like magnifier. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Thanks for the replies so far. I forgot to mention this laptop has Vista. Dennis, your link seems to deal with XP, but I'm still trying to duplicate the steps anyway. No luck finding things so far.
Don, you link looked easy so I tried it, but no luck.
open your start menu go to run type regedit. Once that opens a new screen expand the h key local macine then go to software-microsoft-windows-current version-run. Look through the list of things on the right and see if you see anything having to do with the magnifier and if you do just delete it. If there is nothing in there go back to the very top of that list and instead of going into hkey local machine, go into hkey current user and go through the same steps. BE SURE TO NOT DELETE ANYTHING THAT IS NOT WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!!
I read the link from Dennis last night and it was saying basically the same thing. It also said you can disable start up programs from windows defender so I plan on trying that first.
Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how it goes.
Stupid Vista. OK here's what I've got so far. Using windows defender the magnifier does not show as a start up program under all users. If I leave the program running and look under current programs in windows defender it says Autostart : No
Filepath C:\Windows\System32\Magnifiy*****
I tried the regedit. Both HKey local machine & current user, looked under run & runonce. Double checked anything I did not know what it was in process library and nothing hints at Microsoft Screen Magnifier (Magnify*****)
I know how to do the print screen, but have no idea how to turn that into a picture to post.
The (stupid) Vista menu is different from XP. It has the Option minimize on start up (only minimizes the menu box similar to what you posted above) the Presentation boxes are second & the Tracking boxes are on bottom. The BIG difference is there is no show magnifier box to check. Under Presentation it shows
Scale factor:
Invert Colors
Docked
If you simply close the Magnifier Settings window the program closes (and she may have to start doing that), but I thought this would be something simple to fix.
