Can anyone tell me what the connection is between the colder weather and this chirping noise that is making me nuts? It runs fine it just sounds horrible. I've had my truck, a 2003 7.3 with 41k to the dealer numerous times for it, one time they replaced the belt and the other two times they simply told me they couldn't find anything wrong. They must be deaf, even my kids ask me what the noise is. And yes I am taking it to a different dealer next. Thanks
It makes the noise from the time I start it until the time I shut it down. The speed and volume of the chirp are proportionate to the level of acceleration. I have recored it with a recorder under the hood while driving and for some reason when replayed the noise was not clear enough to be defined. As far as being more specific, it simply sounds like a very large bird is under the hood.
Hope it's not the turbo. Seems like the sound I'd expect to hear when the wheel starts hitting the case. Take off the intake tube and try making the wheel hit the housing. If it hits, the bushing is shot and the turbo must be rebuilt. Most importantly, stop driving it if that's it!! You could end up feeding your engine metal parts.
