I am new to the forum and new to the 7.3 powerstroke. last wed. I bought a 2000 ford superduty crew cab. reverse was a little slow about engaging but I know some fords are like that. well, I hooked my 8,000 pounds camper up to it and went to push it up the drive way in reverse and finished it off. all forward works fine. is it shot? if so, what will a rebuild cost me? thanks guys, I really appreciate it.
Welcome to the site Mike and sorry about your problems.
sounds like trans is toasted, clutch pack or leak in Valve Body. but im no trans expert. why dont you call Brian at BTS tommorrow 1-870-422-FORD and ask the master what he thinks. let us know where you live so maybe we can help you find a good shop if needed.
if you find that your tranny is shot......the upgrade money will be worth it for a BTS Transmission or a John Wood tranny (west coast) Hopefully yours isn't shot! But if it is....you might as well spend a little extra for a GREAT tranny...
I live in western ky. I have a local guy that is nothin but a tranny guy and has been rebuilding them for ever since I can remember as a teen and I am now pushing 40. LOL I believe he could do a great job and I trust him completely. wonder what a rebuild would cost. roughly????????? He can build one according to your needs. He races rails as a hobby. works on nothing but transmisssions.
My truck is a 2000 CC PSD 250 SUPERDUTY 4X4 OFF ROAD. I gave 12,500 for it.
It looks like a new inside and out but a bad tranny, don't matter how good it looks. all forward gears are fine but If I'm gonna have it pulled, I want it gone thru. how much do you guys roughly think it will cost me on average. the truck has 193,000 miles on it. was it time for it to go out?????????
I see that no one else has mentioned that reverse is the only mechanically engaged gear in the 4R100, so if it don't work the problem is internal for sure. In other words not something as simple as an electrical problem.

BTS builds nothing but 4R100 transmissions for all practical purposes. 2 yr written warranty. NO exclusions really to speak of. After that, you pay for shipping and he rebuilds it for free. You bring it there and he installs it for free. Put a chip and do burnouts? No problem.

It don't owe you any money.

www.brianstruckshop.com is the website. Not much info there. Give them a call and talk to them. 1-870-422-FORD. $3900 plus shipping. The are in Lead Hill AR. Last trans you will pay for. He will practically dare you to break it. I asked if I could do a torque stand to check for air leaks in the system. He said "Go ahead. If you break it, I'll fix it."
Have you checked your t. fluid since backing up? These trans have been known to burp it out when backing up. If the trans is low, top it off, and see if that takes care of your problem.
If not, there are two premier trans builders that I know of here in the U.S. Both have exceptional warranties, both have outstanding reputations for reworking 4r100 transmissions.
In the West, you would want to call "John Wood" transmissions.
In the South, it would be "BTS" transmissions.
Their prices are comparable, they both build extraordinary strong transmissions, and both will be happy to schedule a day for you to bring in your truck, explain what went wrong, why it went wrong, and why it won't happen in the future.
You can be there from start to finish, to see exactly how some custom parts are turned out on their equipment just for your truck. When you drive out of their shop at 5.00pm after watching what went on in your rebuild, you’ll know when they say “if you break it, we’ll fix it” they mean it!
These boys have a lot of knowledge of the 4r100, and are a long, long way ahead of the ordinary trans shop, or your Ford HD rebuilds.
