Big Block Bronco

Hello everyone. I am trying to round up all the parts I need to swap a big block into my 78 Bronco. The stuff that is giving me trouble are the brackets for all the acessories on the engine. I can't find a big block truck or van around here, only a couple old cars. From what I understand, the only problem is with the alternator bracket, correct? What I am wondering is if I can use the brackets for the AC compressor, and power steering pump from the car, and then use the alternator bracket from L&L? If anyone else who has done the swap has any other methods, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

Eric,

I just finished dropping a 460 into my 1984 Bronco. I used the Car brackets for the Powersteering and the L&L for the Alternator. The bracket kit was $100 but well worth it... not many 460's in the cars in the boneyards.. and if so.. most of them have had the front part of the engine apart leaving nothing to be had...

Good Luck..

Thanks. Did you have problems with the pulley lining up? I found the alternator bracket on a truck, and am getting it tomorrow, but the truck doesn't have the other brackets. There is a junkyard around here with an old T-bird, with all the other brackets I will need, and since it sounds like a mix of parts will work. The car has the whole engine still in it, but it appears to have siezed, unfortunately. BTW, I think you got ripped off on the alternator bracket. I was given a price of $50 for that, all the others were the expensive ones. Did the car PS pump bracket hit the steering box? That was the only problem I was told of with this bracket. Thanks for the help.

Eric,

First off.. I don't feel I got ripped off considering that the L&L bracket kit is of excellent quality for one.. 2nd it came with the correct pulley to accept the 17/32" belts, 3rd.. I called 3 different sources for L&L parts and all were $95-105.
If you did get a quote for $50 for the L&L bracket two words of advice "BUY IT!" I am curious about the company name! pass on the savings..(for next time)

Ok.. The pulley lined up just fine! and the P.S. bracket accepted the newer style (plastic housing) P.S. pump with just a little grinding to the bracket.

Yes it clears the steering box just fine in my 84 bronco.. not sure if the 78-79's are set up the same??

My engine was a 429 from a 1970 T-bird.
