ok just got the 99 7.3 powerstroke 4x4 crewcab last week. The overhead console that i've heard is called the lyeometer is sayin i avg 13.5 mpg. Is this pretty much how its gonna stay or is there a possible 18 mpg in there somewhere. Heard about cleanin the backpressure deal and i dont know if its been touched. or should i just figure up milage on my own first.
Check your next tank by hand, should be around 14-16. Greg, not to hijack but did you get the replacement motor?
not yet just got it back tonight(the truck)it in the garage gona do a scan test on it tommorow! maybe its something simple to fix! but i do have a couple of 7.3 engines i can get!
Clean the EBP sensor tube and you'll probably have to replace the sensor if clogged. I didn't have much luck cleaning my sensor so I bought a new one off of Ebay. Run the recommened tire pressure that is on your sticker inside the drivers door. Stay below 2000rpm's. I'm getting 13mpg but I'm in cold Wisconsin. Diesel's don't like the cold. You are a little warmer in MS. Right now, we have below zero temps and down to -40F windchill.
I cleaned out my clogged EBPS awhile back, and changed to Rotella 5w-40 synthetic oil in the same week, I instantly noticed a 2mpg jump. I'm not sure which one helped more, but combined....I am very happy! Motor is quieter too
Changing the truck to synthetic oil in everything i mean everything, a clean fuel filter, lock out hub's will help but winter blend fuel and cold weather rob's mileage.

I've a pal that is the parts manager at a stealership and he gave me a new sensor today just cuz he likes me. The primary diesel mechanic there said to simply remove the old, start the engine and any soot in the tube should blow out. True? Plus, does this sensor come out all that easy, or is there danger of twisting the tube? That is something I don't care to do.
