I was thinking about getting the Cortex from Superchips for a Tuner of my '05 F250 5.4L, with Dual Exhaust and CAI. Anyone have any experience with these chips or know of anyone who will custom tune. Out of the Box, they claim somewhere in the range of 27rwhp and 33ft-lbs with the canned tune, and the SCT X3 suggest 22 and 20(i believe or around here).
Anyone one have experience with custom tunes for the SCT, I will mostly use chip for towing and mileage when just driving. So can anyone give me numbers to expect for possible tunes from X3?
Basically can I get a custom tow tune from SCT(or dealer) in the neighborhood of what the cortex offers, or better. Or will it be around the same or worse?
Just looking to be able to compare custom vs. stock...thanks guys I know the chips won't make that much of a diff with the 5.4L, but want to know what these chips can do.
The sponsor of this forum(Troyer) does custom tunes for the 5.4 engine and I think you should get a FTE discount(I don't know if that will equal to atleast what you are wanting but it doesn't hurt to ask). I have heard nothing but good things about Troyer's tuning, but I by no means have experiance with custom tuning a 5.4 as I only deal with diesel. However, I can tell you this custom is by far better then out of the box tuning, especially if you have an auto and you tow alot(I know it makes a world of difference for me and when I haul my horses). They will also by able to match the tuning to how you drive much more efficiently then if you tried to shoot for luck that the out of the box tuning matches somewhat to how you like to drive. Just my thinking anyway. Sorry I couldn't have been more helpful.
I'm awaiting a response from Troyer on this very topic. I have to believe he is able to get the same results with either tuner. I'm sure both tuners allow the same mods to the trucks computer program and a custom tuner like Troyer should be able to figure out the different key strokes to achieve the same end result. I'm asking him what are the differences in the devices? For instance he states on his very informative Xcal3 page you get "LiveLink" software so you can datalog directly to your notebook all parameters available. I'm curous if the Cortex has the same capability. What would cause me to choose one over the other at the present time? Price? Cool features?

That is a cool feature and I have used it on my custom tunes and sent the results back to my programmer and he was able to tweak the tune based on that. Now I have the Xcal 2, but I believe(not sure of this so don't quote me) on the Xcal 3 you can do dataloging on the device itself as well and not have to use it as a bridge between your truck and your laptop. I think I heard and/or read that somewhere, just can't remember.

Your correct Tex.
