No prob. I want to find out more on the condition too, that's why I kept posting. I hope the fix works, I'll store the info in my peabrain and try to recall it if I can.
I thank you too for your input.
.......BAD Ordeal on this for me was i had to find / install this just last week, when i found i had NO front wheel drive when the SNOW hit out for here in Washington ! ! ! was driving and press'd the 4x4_hi, gas'd it a couple of time's only to find the rear end of the truck to slide off to the right, like only a 2 wheel drive of a vehicle.........made sure by going to an open parking lot and jump'd on the gas a couple times and only rear tire's were throwing snow....NO FRONT Wheel DRIVE ! ! ! had the son drive forward with this and i walk'd along side and noticed the front drive shaft WAS turning, so, that told me that since the DriveShaft IS turning and i notice'd that both Axle shaft's were turning also, it was down into the HUB's for the problem ! ! ! got it back home and commence the change over to the WARN Kit right then, in the cold & snow on my drive way ! ! [ I should have NOT decided to wait for spring to put these on, huh??? ]......at least it didn't take me tooooo Long to do this , ONCE i figured out this problem with the 3 washer's & C_clip and all; EVEN went as far as to calling and confirming this with the rep's at WARN.......

so Warn told you that you dont need those thrust washers and c-ring? If this is true, and these trucks have been around for awhile, and these kits have been around for awhile, why are the instructions so misleading?

.........welp, IF you read the instruction's, you WILL see that they have stated "...ON some vehicle's, these washer's & c-clip will NOT be required to replace upon...." that is about as close to this problem for us that i have found for them to have made a quote of, but doing the " clearance_check " for confirming clearance of, that IS a good way to finding out and all.......
.......and YES, the WARN rep DID state this to me on the phone.......

So as I already knew, the hubs fit nicely with the c-ring and washers removed. The process is quite simple when you get past this step. Thank you all for the help. There are subtle differences in applications. I blame this one on my engineering backround, and not enough technical experience. It made sense, but I was believing that Warn knew what they were doing with these kits. I am still impressed with the product, but not too impressed with the instructions that came along with both kits.
So thanks to everyone for the help. There is a lot of experience around here, and thats why I knew I could get some answers yesterday. Thanks again!
.......CONGRAT's = U got er' lick'd ! ! ! ......now for the GOOOOOooood Test, Go out and put er' into 4x4 and throw some mud, dirt, er gravel.....whatever & check for left & right front tires to throw it, BUT be easy, no need to chip-up or scratch up the paint job, huh???? . . . . . .again, just glad to hear you've made the Positive Progress upon yourself for this........
I am doing the same thing, getting of the auto and installing the warn manuals. So let me get this right, after the nut conversion kit is installed, is the cam assembly that was in the auto hubs still used? If so that is installed then the hub body of the manual locks, snap ring, then the cap? Just really need to know if the stock cam assembly is still used right after the new nut conversion kit.
Thanks
No, the cam assembly is not reinstalled. The problem I had was with the thrust washers and the c-ring that held the axleshaft centered in the hub. Also, you only need the conversion if you have the 3 cap screw auto hubs. Need any more help, just keep posting. I spent a lot of time with this conversion and learned a lot about the hubs and the whole process.
OP, excellent detailed question and description. Excellect detailed answer mr.charles. Started a Warn manual hub conversion on a '96 F-150 4x4 today and ran into the same issue and conclusion about the thrust washers/c-ring...only proper fit was without them. The Instructions are bit vague in that respect. Good to have a confirmation.
Also, after numerous searches, it's refreshing to see such concise detail in both question and answer. Too many posts, IMHO, are much like the conversion kit instructions...a bit too vague.
......thnx for the compliment, i much appreciate it; Hopefully, all with your project goes well & without any problem's!!! IF so, just post back for here and i as well as other's will post to help....
