Duh??

Guys,

I changed out my Tranny filter today. Cleaned the pan and magnet. All looked good at 36k on my 02 EX. Did something stupid. Got everything back together..And guess what was laying next to me. The darn tranny donught magnet. I don't want to remove the bolts again and drain it. I just put the magnet at the bottom of the pan on the exterior of it. Will this catch any loss shaving's???

or get more magnets and put them on outside. If you have 2 outside, close to one inside. How bad was the magnet when you changed fluid? If it was not bad, put magnet on outside and do another fluid change in a year...better than tossing fluid now...or do not play with and expensive tranny and just do it right. 40 in fluid is nothing compared rebuilding something.

When I changed fluid, i did not drop pan. Just used drain plug as well as move through gears...not as good but fluid was real clean.

drain fluid through drain hole, push in smaller earth magnets through the drain hole, refill.

I wish you all the best!

This sounds like one of those "DUH" diaries:

Day 1
It was a beautiful day - thought I'd work on my truck. Time for a tranny fluid change and filter replacement. Not a bad job, but I forgot the magnet!!! ARGH!
Day 2
Went online and asked about sticking one on the outside. Got a good reply so I think I'll try it.
Day 3
Went down and bought some big cube magnets and stuck them on the pan. We'll see.
Day 4
Just looked under my truck when I got home. Had a 4-wheeler and a BBQ pit stuck to the magnets. Called the Dept of Public Safety. Found out that an APB is out for my 2002 Ford EX. Hung up phone. Surely they didn't trace number...?
Day 5
Drove into garage and removed BBQ pit. Steaks are cold, but good with beer. Drank a 6 pack and turned on my radio before I removed 4-wheeler. Eye of the Tiger playing. Finally removed 4-wheeler. A little boy was still on it! Heard about kidnapping over the radio "Boy missing and so is his 4-wheeler." Called the Hotline number they gave. Gave little boy a bowl of hot soup.
Day 6
Logged onto FTE from the jailhouse. Told my friends not use the High-Performance magnets.
Day 7
Bailed out of jail last night. Logged on to FTE. Laughed at a new joke about some guy that stuck a big magnet on his tranny pan.
