Intelligent dipstick??
This company is marketing a product called Intellistick. It is a repacement for your dipstick. Reportedly electronically monitors your oil for readiness for change, for gas or antifreeze/coolant in the oil 24/7. It supposedly does lab grade oil analysis on eihter gas or diesel and the results can be read on a smart phone, PDA, or laptop. www.intellistick.com is the url.
I'm interestd in hearing your thoughts? At $500 a pop one cant afford to take chances. What do ya think?
Gives you only half of the data of what an oil sample should. Without the complete analysis of your engine oil, it is really worthless. What it does monitor you can tell without having to uplink to your PDA. Coolant levels and oil change intervals.
For gas motors, it is definately cheaper to perform the traditional method as you really don't need a sample on a regular basis, only if you have a concern. For diesels, you definately need the data from a complete oil analysis on a consistent basis that the unit doesn't seem to provide.
Kinda strange how the "professor" downplays abrasive wear and hypes up corrosive wear. He's got it backwards.
.
Over priced gadget... if you need Oil analysis...pay for the real deal once or twice or year
But I can tell you true...on a gas motor changed at 3000, 5000, or even 7500... this device won't tell you nothing you should not already know by weekly or more often oil checks.... you know.... like you are supposed to do at least every time you fill up ...wink
