I have about 179K on this truck and now I think the Turbo is crapping out on me. I hear a little noise that almost sounds like someone jingling change under my hood at low rpm but once I spool up, I dont hear it anymore. The truck has been running like crap lately anyway so I'm thinking its Turbo time. At idle, I hear something that sounds like a water pump bearing going out so again, I'm thinking Turbo.
I was really thinking about trading it in on the newer 2006-07 but I'd probably just get someone elses problem.
Is that Turbo hard to rebuild or should I go ahead and get the one I saw on EBAY for 700???
Send me a PM if you find you need a used replacement in decent condition. $700 on Ebay is too much for a used turbo, well, unless it is rebuilt by a pro.
Or you can get a rebuild kit and go the DIY route. Good luck.
I could be wrong but the noise you are describing doesn't sound like turbo,it will normally make more noise while spooling
I would check belt idlers etc first
as stated before $700 is too much for a rebuilt turbo
Update on my Turbo:
I pulled the hoses off and inspected everything for leaks, none found. I checked the wheel and the blades look as new and sharp and the day it was installed. I do the maintenance so I guess that much paid off. There was ZERO play sided to side, in or out on that thing so I have NO idea whats going on. I guess its time to put it in the shop and see how bad they're going to screw me.
i wouldn't go that route yet, tell FTE more of whats going on. there is way too much knowledge on here, there is bound to be someone that can help out.
I agree, you guys know more about the Super Duty than they do. I was almost taked into trading it in on a newer one but the price is rediculous and I'm not comfortable with that 6.0 engine.
Anyway, for the past several months, it just seems to have lost its *****. I pulled a 27' travel trailer last summer and my uncle outran me with his Z71 and longer trailer.
I've done the tank mods to help with the fuel issues and I maintain the filters and fluids like crazy. This truck is not neglected in the least, hell I even put the LUK upgrade in it myself so I know how to turn wrenches. So what do you guys think?
ya.. the tinging that i was hearing is really driving me nuts. I checked all the lines this weekend and found no leaks. The noise might be coming from the belt tension device or power steering.. I cant tell.
The loss of powe is really getting to me though.. I'm thinking about doing a 4" exhaust to see what that does.
Ok.. what would those things be? I'd like to be able to do some of this stuff myself before I whip 300 bucks out for the dealership to tell me I have a bad sensor.
have you cleaned your EBP sensor and tube, try this site http://guzzle.rbmicro.com/maint.html for some maintenance. i cleaned mine and it helped with little loss of power and economy.
