Rear Axle Question

How much play should be in the rear axle side to side? I think my c-clips or the pin is wearing out. The rear axle is making some noise like a loose axle or c clip wear. It has 161,000 miles. I changed the fluid at 120,000 everything seemed fine then.

Double check fluid level. About an 1/8 of an inch in and out would be okay. Check for wobble at the axle shafts and slop at the pinion (remove driveshaft first).

Axle bearings and the pinion are ok. I guess i'll pull it down to check it out. At least it will get a fluid change.

put a jack stand under either side and grab your tire and try to move it if your play is right close to the hub then your bearings are wore out.

I'm going to pull the cover to inspect the diff. and then check the axle bearings.
