I started my engine up for the first time today. This was my first engine buildup. After running it for a few minutes , I looked at the dipstick, and the oil was colored a light yellowish white. My first reaction was that water had gotten into the engine causing it to mix with the oil and foam. The color was similar to foam, but after closer evaluation , it was not foam at all. The oil felt greasy. Is it common for all of the break-in lube from the cam and other parts to mix in with the oil? The oil/ grease was distributed through the entire engine. I removed the valve covers and noticed that the grease/ oil had been splattered all ove the valve covers. I plan on letting the oil sit in the pan overnight to allow any water to collect at the bottom. I will change the oil tomorrow and check to see if their is any water in the oil. Any opinions?
Yes, that's normal when breaking in a new engine with assembly lube.
That's why it is recommend to use a cheap oil for break-in.
Change the OIL and FILTER.
If the chocolate milk comes back, than you may have a head or Intake gasket leak.
Thanks alot. We drained a little bit from the oil pan to make sure that it was not water. We let it sit for a day in a half before we drained any from the pan to make sure that the water ( more dense ) would sink to the bottom. We found no water. Good. The oil however still looked like a dark chocolate milk but smelled like gasoline. This could be attributed to a problem with the float that we had fixed earlier. It was running extremely rich with gas. So rich infact that gas was pouring out the vent tubes. W e immediately stopped and adjusted the bowl, it is now fine. Again thankyou
