Motor mounts again
LAST EDITED ON 05-Jan-01 AT 07:58 PM (EST)[p]I've got a 460 out of an 87 F250 and I want to stick it in a 78 Bronco. L&L motor mounts are an obvious option, but I've heard from a few people that 70-73 2WD 390 motor mounts will work with slight modifications. Difference in price being $15 vs $100. So I picked up a set of 72 390 2WD mounts, and there is no way they will work without a LOT of modifications, and if I were to do that much to them, I might as well just make em from scratch. There is always the possibility that the parts store gave me the wrong ones, so can anyone confirm this 390 motor mount myth?

hi, can't confirm the 390 mounts problem, but the L&L mounts work great and are good quality, used them in a 1978 F-250 swap when I coulnd't find others. They sure must have gone up in price.

The problem with the 390 mount's is the perch that you are putting them on. You will either have to find the rite perch and chisel & grind the rivet's off or call L&L and git the rite mount for that conversion. Mine are going on 6 years now with no problem's. When you decide to do it make sure to put a hold down chain on the driver side so the torque wont be trying to pull up on you're mount. you're call good luck

Performance Automotive Warehouse CA pawengineparts.com? sell a frame adapter from Transdapt #9433 about75$. The egine isolators can be bought from your local auto parts... the application is for a 73 to 79 f series 2wd with the 460 option (i just paid 56$ for the pair). The shells that mount to the block are from the same application but i just recently tried my local dealer and he said they are obsolete.?! you may have to scrounge the junkyard scene or fab or get lucky in the aftermarket (let me know, i'm going to fab mine but would rather not) finish off the swap with hooker #6841 engine swap headers... the cheapest? price for those is at summitracing.com $370. some thicker flywheels may require you to notch the bell housing for clearance and watch the throw out forks, too. the alt and power steering has to be mounted high a fab project. My first swap was from a tired 400 to an approx 500 hp 460 and got 8mpg from the 5600 lb truck. but i trade the 850 dbl pumper for a 750 vac and now get 9mpg ... but it needs to burn premiun 10.5:1 ratio. good luck dnadzam@atsengineers.com
