Ok guys im lookin at this truck, i finally got some money up for a new(er) truck and im lookin at this one pretty seriously. I cant seem to find a 97ish powerstroke like i want so this is my next option. Ok so it has 105,000 miles on it and it has the 7.3 PSD in it. I know these motors will run for awhile if you keep em maintained, so im not TO worried about the mileage. I wanted to know if the axles on these trucks as strong enough to hold up to these tires on a normal basis. Im not one to smoke the tires off or anything, but im just kind of worried about 36's on these axles (you have to excuse me for my ignorance about these trucks). Im not worried about ball joints and stuff, i can replace those no problem. How about the tranny? Its the 6 speed, will it be ok with these tires. What about the clutch? Please help a fellow ford enthusiast make the right choice lol. Like i said i dont have hardly and experiance with the SD.
Yea this truck caught my eye, very sharpe lookin pickup. I am going to test drive it in the mornin but i wanted to talk to the "deisel guys" here first. I want this truck to last a while and not have to worry bout blowin the rearend, or rippin the tranny out. I only pull maybe 3500-4000 pounds when i do pull and thats a small inclosed trailor with two quads in it and a bunch of campin gear.
Shouldnt have a problem towing that, i know those tires are goodyears but get her up to speed to see how they sound and feel. Good looking truck for that price.
Well the tires are a lesser concern, im mostly worried about drivetrain. I dont think 3500-4000 pounds is to heavy for it, i dont run em hard, and im used to a dodge with a 318 in it for god sakes lol.. Ok anyone have anything to tell me to look for when i go look at it?
Mines running 4.10. Dont really notice with the 6Spd. The only real problem ive had is with the ball-joints. Mine were litterally falling apart, not sure what caused it cuz it only have 65K+ on it.
the first thing to go on the tranny is the throw out bearing. it really just depends on how it was driven. they are good tranny's though. i have had 2 of them. i had 130,00 on my first one before i finally opened it up to put the throwout bearing in. the clutch probably could have gone to 200,000 miles, but that bearing was squealling pretty bad and driving me nuts. i went ahead a replaced everthing since i was in there. easy enough job though.
If you haven't checked, I just looked on carfax and it looks good from there. One owner for the first 5 1/2yrs and 1 since.
Hey thanks for checkin for me, seems like it hasent been passed around too much. Im not to concerned with the options it has, actually i prefer cloth bucket seat, roll up windows ect. The only thing i upgrade inside is to a cd player if it only has casette. I like basic, less things to go wrong lol.. Ok so what are things that go wrong on these with this mileage (drivetrain issues)? I know little about these motors and drivetrain for that matter if you couldnt tell by now.
No problem, I still have a few days left on my subscription and I want to get my moneys worth. You might want to post an Oasis report request on the 6.0 forum and see if it had any problems the dealer delt with.
Ok onto next set of questions, how is it when things go wrong? Im a mechanic, but havent really worked on these motors. Like injectors and such are they a pain? What about GPs?
The 6.0 forum has a thread at the top where you can post your request for an oasis report. There must be some members there that have access to oasis and are good enough to post for us.
