yes i had 3 other ford keys all on one key chain , i've had it that way for 5 years without issues. now i've separated them all to prevent any interference. so far the non start issue has not recurred. its been started and restarted numerous times to make sure i don't get stuck in a no start situation like jmwcctx. thanks jmwcctx and everyone for your input . i'll update u as nessasary.
i reread the last post . do the keys have some kind internal battery which can go bad? , how does the system read the pats key
there isn't a battery in the key there is a chip called a transponder and around the ignition cylinder is an attenna that see] the key and sends the code from the key to the pats module if the code on the key has been programed into the system then it allows the truck to start, if the attenna picks up the wrong key then it won't start, if the transponder in the correct key is damaged then it won't start, and over time the key can start to lose the code( not sure why) but that's what the quaters help with
ok after dealing with the nostart situation i felt it was it was more of a fuel issue . the engine would fire with a shot of starting fluid so i cked the fuel filter. It was CLogged. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter . EXPD has now started reliably 15 times over 3 days.
