'73 Closed chamber heads?
I stopped by the cylinder head shop today to get prices on doing my D2VE-AA heads. The guy had a set of 460 heads with casting # D3VE-A2A. If I have been studying correctly, these should be the same as what I already have. These heads had closed, D-shaped chambers as opposed to my open 91cc chambers. Everything else looked the same except for the CJ sized valves that I think the shop installed. I looked at my heads and don't see how they could be milled down enough to get a chamber like these had. Is there a simple explanation or are these worth getting? I need the compression badly and they will actually be cheaper than doing my heads even with stock valves. $300 and they are mine, is this worth it or should I avoid them?

'73 Closed chamber heads?
hi Bigsnag, i'm sorry to be the one to burst your bubble, but all the heads ford produced from 1968 thru 1978 for sure and possibly beyond were ALL closed chamber, in the 429/460 engine family except the D2VE-AA 1972 head these were the only year that ford produced an OPEN chamber design. i know this i have way over my limit on these heads in my barn right now. beyond 1979 i'm not sure about those are years, those i don't care about nothing good happened in the 80's. sorry buddy. C.J. later...................
