I got a passenger airbag switch from a donor truck (my truck wasn't equipped with one). I figured since the harness plug was behind the power port I could plug it in an it would work. Well the switch works (off lights up when it is off), but the airbag warning light on the instrument cluster flashes.
Any ideas why...my 1st thought is that the computer actually controls the action of that switch and needs to know that it is there.
I noticed my truck has the wiring without the switch too. I just assumed it would work if you plugged a switch in. Maybe the PCM is programmed for not having a switch and gets confused when you turn the airbag off.
Does the light only come on when you have the airbag turned off? Post your location. Maybe someone that lives near you has a scanner and can see what kind of code your getting.

No, but it flashes differently depending on if the switch is off or on. I live in the Phoenix, AZ area.
The computer has to be programmed for the switch at the dealer, but the dealer won't approve it unless you have a specific reason for it that meets their requirements.
Possible requirements could be if you have more children than will fit in the back seats, etc.

Thanks, I kinda thought that the computer might have to be programmed to see it.
