I went to pull someone out of the mud tonight aand when I went to put it in 4x4 high or low it didnt matter which one. It showed 4x4 on the dash but when i went to pull it was only in 2wd. Then after playing with the sitch on and off a couple of times and trying to pull it finally went into 4x4 and it pulled it right out. Then after i got him out and went to put it back into 2wd and it wouldnt switch back to 2wd. I have a 01 f250 7.3 6 speed with ESOF. And another auestion which way is locked in on the hubs clockwise or counterclockwise. Please help me out.
ps My heat in my truck only stays on the defrost could this have something do do with the 4x4 problem.
yes odds are that you have a vacuum leak somewhere.. normally they occur around the hub area... the line that goes to your knuckle that hose usually has a crack somewhere.. thats the first place id look...
there is a hose on the "knuckle" if you turn your wheel all the way in there will be a hose that goes into your knuckle on top of you caliper.. the hose is about a foot long or so and is black.. that hose is known to leak.. i replaced mine with a stainless steel braided one from dieselsite but still have a leak somewhere so i need to trace the hoses to where they connect to the vacuum pump... but i would first check that hose out
now does you heater default to defrost everythime you start the truck?
like Bob mention, look on the top of the knuckle you will see one hose going to the top of it this is your vacum line.you can pull one off and have somone awitch from 2 to4x4 and see with your finger if you have vacum there. it wont be much so you wont loose finger, but you should feel it.
hey now i have a question pete... can i check mine even tho i have the braided hoses now.. im assuming i have a leak elsewhere besides my knuckle... bcuz when i turn my ac on it defaults to defrost?
Locked is clockwise. Sounds like a vacuum leak. Your Pulse Vacuum Hublock Solenoid is working otherwise it never would have gone into 4WD. There is a rubber tube coming off that solenoid, located at the top of the right fenderwell mounted just below the hood, that T's prior to going to each hub. Inspect the tube for rot. You can use a golf tee to disconnect and isolate sections of the tube to see if it pulls a vac. Remember the vacuum is only applied for 30 seconds or so each time the 4WD switch is operated. If the tubes are in good condition, inspect the nipples on the hubs for rust, dirt or other clogs. If it still doesn't work you may need to R&R the o-rings in the hubs.
Bob im sure you can, you can unscrew it from the hub. and if you have compressor you can blow air from the hub side and listen where is leaking, start with low psi 3-5 , you should hear it . do it to both sides .
