starter dead at 41,000 miles

I was at the gas station today and went to start my work truck up (04 v10 auto f350 dump) and nothing. Relays clicking, fuel pump priming, wacked the starter and she started up. Goes in to Ford tomorrow for a new starter. Ford already changed the harness because it was rotting i guess. The truck that i drive is the only one that my boss got the extended warranty on, and its paying for itself. The other trucks (same year/model) havent had any problems to speak of yet. Anyone else kill a starter in 41,000 miles?

It really depends on a lot of issues.

I see you're in NH....are you plugging the truck in at night when the temps drop? If not, then the thick oil is harder to turn over which really puts abnormally high pressure on the starter.

I just had the starter replaced on my 02 F-350 DRW V-10 Dump/plow truck and it has less than 27,000 miles on it. The whole thing was rusted pretty bad--just like the rest of my F'in Old Rusty Dump. Sitting most of the time and running in the worst weather is tough on the old girl.
