turbo trouble
I just bought a '91 f-250 extended cab 4X4 ,5 speed after 10 years of driving an '82 gmc with a 6.2 n/a. I'm just hoping my ford will be as reliable, its got to be able to pull my fifth wheel better as it has been turboed. Anyway how can I tell what brand of turbo it is? its located behind the stock air cleaner so when I first popped the hood I didn't think there was a turbo since i had never seen one with the stock filter still in place. plus the boost gauge doesn't work but looks like its all hooked up correctly. is it possible the turbo isn't working?
It takes heat to get a turbo wound up. The exhaust itself will get one to spin but what makes then really get going us when you give the engine more the fuel the exhaust gets hotter. Hot air expands and moves faster then cold air.
It is just like a turbine engine on a plain.
You may have fuel problem. Fuel filter, sucking air ect.
Check the boost gauge yourself. It may not be working. Use shop air or blow in the line and get somebody to watch the gauge. You can blow into it hard to bump the gauge.
