I am insatalling an electric fan on my 53 with 302 motor. Unlike the Wieand intake on my 46, the Edelbrock on my 53 only has one threaded hole into the cooling passages. I am using a CCI fully shrouded fan that will cover the entire finned area of the radiator so I don't want to stick a probe into the fins [not that I would want to anyway] and sure not under a radiator hose. I have done the sensor in the petcock hole before and swore I would not do it again.Have any of you solved this in a manner I am overlooking? Thanks, Joe
Is there anywhere on the heads or the block that could be used? Either that or run a "T" fitting in the port you already have in the intake (I take it that the threaded hole is already being used for the coolant temp gauge?)
The probe of the temp sensor and the temp gauge sender both need to be in coolant flow. I am not aware of threaded holes in head, maybe someone else will be. Thanks Bobby.
Check for a later model thermostat neck that might have a threaded hole in it. I know GM did that on some vehicles, maybe Ford did the same thing.
Another thought.....maybe you could replace one of the heater hose ports with a longer one. Long enough to have a threaded port in it.
On mine I drilled and tapped a new hole for the sensor on the thermostat housing. There just happened to be a convenient flat spot that was screaming for a hole to be drilled in it
Thanks for the thought on the thermostat housing, I will look into that. I thought about the heater hose idea, but I am not sure of sufficent flow when heater vavle is closed. Thanks again Bobby.
