429 CJ?

I just looked at a truck today, and the guy told me that it had a 429CJ in it. The thought the head casting #'s were DOVE A2A, but after looking at some posts in here I am not so sure now. There was grease and dirt on them but it might have read D3VE A2A. The manifold is 2 Dove 9425 b. I could read this one. Can anyone say what these heads are. I am thinking they are not CJ heads. Any help would be appeciated.

Thanks

definitely not cj heads. D0VE ARE 70' PASSENGER CAR HEADS(VERY GOOD, BETTER FOR STREET THAN CJ) D3VE ARE 73' SMOG HEADS, BIG CHAMBERS-NO COMPRESSION

CJ heads are D0AE-H or C9VE-A. D3VE-A2A are 72-74 429/460 heads with 91cc combustion chambers, 2.08/1.66 I/E valves and non adjustable stamped rockers. IOW nuthin' special.

hey, there is ONLY one casting number for the 429 c.j. head. and the casting number is D0OE-R for 1970 & '71. if this number is not cast on the cylinder head keep moving on, this person is trying to sell you something that it's not. take it easy. C.J. later.........

Just curious as to where your information is coming from. I don't have that casting# anywhere in my book.

429 CJ?

hey Bill, where do i begin. well i have a few different books that talk about the 429 c.j. .. i have two sets of these heads in my barn D0OE-R castings. any of your hot rod magizines from mustangs and fords, to mustang monthly, to ford trader magazine always talk about these engines from time to time. i'm not pulling your leg if your still not convinced call any of your restoration places like perogie enterprises, or kar kraft, they will tell you the same. you can't rely on some of these books that claim they know casting numbers, i have had a couple of these so called manuals in the past myself, but since they didn't have correct info i threw them out. hope this helps you out. C.J. later......

Here's a website that has some info on 385 series casting #s on it. They have 2 #s for the CJ/SCJ heads:

http://www.385-series.com/info.html

Not saying they're 100% correct but...

429 CJ?

I have a set of C9VE-A heads on my 1968 429 Thunderbolt block and in doing my research prior to buying them I learned a few things. The guy I bought them from said that they're CJ heads but what I found out was that these heads are actually 429 Police heads which are said to be exactly like the 1970 CJ heads....from Ford technical writers.
I hope this is correct...if not...who knows the real story!

hi Ranger488, i'm sorry to burst your bubble, but you don't even have a set of police heads. trust me i know.. what you have (C9VE-A) are average passenger car heads for that time frame, nothing special except high compression about ( 11:1.1 ) ratio. if you did have police heads they would have the casting number of D2OE-A2A they have push rod guide plates. i've heard of casting number D3OE-A2A for a 429 police head but yet to see a pair of these. but i do own a pair of 429 police exhaust manifolds (D30E-A2A) so it would seem the heads are out there. sorry but that's what you got. i'd go get my money back if i were you if you really wanted a set of police heads. i hope you didn't pat alot for these, a very good set of police heads are going to run in the range of at least $600.00 on the low end. take it easy.
