Smile Engine Cleaning

I have 1950 F-1. It looks as if some of the grease, oil, and dirt in the engine compartment are from 1950. I was thinking about geting the engine steam cleaned but I have read that might cause problems if it is not done right. I was concerned about the risks and the fact that it is a 1950. Any suggestions???

don't think you'll hurt it, just don't fill the crankcase w/ water and start it afterward

Just watch wear you spray. Obviously dont focus on the distributor and such parts. Dont fill the crankcase or valve cover with water, not so good once you try and start it. Also keep water out of the intake by all means.
My 2 cents worth

I got an engine cleaning kit (I think it was "Gunk" brand) from the local auto parts store. I think it had a spray-on degreaser that you let soak for 10 min or so, then you hose it off and it also had some stuff you could spray on to make everything shiny. I skipped the shiny part, but the degreaser stuff does a good job.
