Hi folks,
I weigh about 70 pounds more than the story book says I should. Tried to jump in the truck in a hurry with muddy feet and am lucky to be alive (feels like it anyway). Someone watched me get in one day and said it looked like a monkey f%@#*&g a football. Any of you in the 250 pound area using anything that holds up without any problems and is reasonably priced? Do these things mount to the frame itself, or the reinforced channel under the body? Anyone made anything themselves? Pictures would be great.
I built nerf bars for my 97 out of cheap pipe, 90* elbows(don't have pipe bender) and some pcs of plate steel for bracketry.I bolted them to the frame and the lip of the body.We even cut out some long oval shapes on the top and welded in some diamond plate for grip. I don't have pics of the build process but from 20' they looked like aftermarket to me anyway. There are also the actual steps that I think go to the frame and are not nearly as pricey as the nerf bars.My Bronco had aluminum running boards when I bought it and they were too flimsy for me and I hate them anyway.I threw them in the scrap bin at work.
It took me and buddy a day to build a set for my truck and a set for his dodge.
I have the old style flat running boards (DeeZee) and they hold up to my 300lb sister.
As for the tube type . They dont last (rust ) And I dont like the step.
But I do like the simple hoop/sturrip type steps
