I'm still in debate of whether to weld my 44 up front. On one hand, it's free and then I'll be true 4wd, not 3wd. On the other hand, I'll be at a very small risk of breaking something. I'll probably never go over 35's on this truck, and by the time I have money for those I'll be able to afford at least some good front u joints. Whats yall thoughts on this? How long does it usually take to tear down a 44 while its in the truck? What kind of seals are in the tubes for the gear oil? I'd like to change them out while I'm in there. Just got to throw some tech out there..... Its getting slow in that aspect in here. really slow.
well thats the thing, I'm very worried about the $$ of it as I'm a jobless senior in high school..... Maybe I'll just be putting this off till I get the cash. but I want 4wd.... If I had a decent floor jack, or better yet a tranny jack I would just twin stick it instead to keep me busy. I guess I'm just working with what I have.
Oh it doesnt hinder me at all. I dont even really drive it right now other than around the back yard and up this stupid little dirt hill. Just looking for the experience of welding a front I guess. Maybe by some stroke of god I'll find a driver side 60 with 4.11 gears that some guy wants me to haul to the scrap yard for him....
Nothing wrong with some wishfull thinking right? With as many of these trucks I see around here, I figure its only time before I find one that has "THE" setup.
Its far cheaper to buy a project truck someone else started with all the components you want than start from scratch.
I bought my 79 F250 for $2000
it already had a 460 L&L motor mounts ps pump mount alt mount 10qt oil pan remote oil filter frame exit headers oil cooler ps cooler tranny cooler 4.56 gears and detroits front and rear and a 4" lift.
I figured he had $2000 in the axles alone so I bought it. Engine needed a rebuild though.
heres a pic from the day I brought it home. like the tires?
oh yeah 30x9.50x16.5! and no two are alike
