Rough ideling

I took my truck on a trip and evertime i get thr rpms below 1400 the truck runs like its missing and smokes a blue gray smoke but anything over 1400 it runs great. when i start it up it smokes a ton. when i was doing it if i tryed to take off it would load up then just puff a hugh smoke cloud gray out of it then after a huge hessitaion just take off. now it runs ok know most of the time but everyknow and then i does the missing agian at low rpms. i have dp tuner and it does it on all stages dont notice it much at all on high idle. any ideas thinking i need to get the injectors buzzed thanks Brian Grode

I'd start out by testing the UVC at the valve covers using this procedure:

Checking the ohms reading at the valve cover connector on the outside.

Pin Out

G G I I C I I G G

G=Glow Plug +
I = Injector +
C= Injector Common

***The injectors fire with a 115VDC signal from the IDM. Do Not pierce the wires to test.***

Test between "I" and "C" to test the injectors, should be less than 5.0 Ohms.

To check glow plugs Test between "G" and battery ground. Should be between 0.6 and 2.0 Ohms

If this is OK than get a Buzz test and a CC test.

i have a superchip just for reading codes and getting other interested in diesel performance. i read the codes and have no codes that i havnt caused myself. i have a set of injectors out of my other motor witch had 210000 on them the injector in number eight burned a hole in the piston done know why it did it to me wasnt runing hard and didnt show any signs of going bad. Just driving down the road and bang went the number eight piston and started missing and pumping oil every were. so i got a 2000 f250 rollover sold the interior and the plasitc under the holod took the motor out and put in my truck ever since i have dont that about 2000 miles ago its beens been shoking white gray quite a bit on start up and keeps smoking untile the truck is good and warm. and know the thing misses at low rpms. I dont like the idea of just replacing one injector with a new one want to put in a set of aftermarket but yeah money is tight. so im going to get and autoenginuity or jsut get the injectors buzz tested. then put one of the old injectors in to make it work for now. does the simple ohm test tell me when injector would be bad or is the buzz test only way to figure it out.

ok...possible stupid question here, but what does getting the injectors "buzzed" mean. my ride has been making some unusual noises at idle so i'd like to start checking stuff.

The buzz test will only check the injector wiring at the time and state that it is conducted. The actual sound tells you how each injector solenoid is responding to the voltage applied. That is it. It will not tell you if that injector is crap as it may buzz fine and still have other problems but it is a good place to start.

Ohm testing the harness will not tell you if the injector is bad, just whether the harness or wiring is not up to specs.

A buzz test is done with the key on engine off, by a competent scan tool.
it will for lack of a better description "buzz" each injector in sequence front to back 2468(drivers side), 1357( pax side), the IDM (injector driver module) is commanding the plunger, and poppets in each in jector to activate, thus resulting in the buzz sound. you will be able to tell the difference in in sound of a good buzz and a bad buzz(or no buzz). just count the number of buzzes as the test progresses, and whenever you hear a different(or no buzz) then that is the number of injector in question.
