Ok, I know that if I kept searching the threads, I might eventually find some reference to this subject, but I've been looking for 3 days, and haven't found much yet.
Is there anyone out there that manufactures an aftermarket braking system for our trucks? I've been snooping on the Baer, Wilwood, SSBC, etc. websites, and nobody makes anything for a 79 (or any other comparable year, for that matter).
Mine is a 79 F250 Trailer Special, and I'm pretty sure it has the HD brakes, as I found dual piston calipers in front. The rears are still drum, but I think I'm pretty much stuck with that considering that you have to remove the axles just to take the drum off.
I've read Million's comments about installing a 79 F350 9 1/4", dual diaphragm booster, and I will probably have to reread that about 50 times just so I can try to figure out which one I would need.
My guess is that with the exception of maybe some aftermarket rotors for the front, I'm going to probably have to stay stock, and just paint up the calipers so they'll look nice. The truck always stopped just fine, but I figured if I was going to go as nuts as I have so far, maybe better brakes wouldn't be a bad idea.
you need the Post DJ0001 F-350 Booster Bendix # R2512681 (thanks to Mil1ion) advance auto here lists it for a 78 f350 but its the same part cost is $97.97 plus $30 core which you wont need your old one anyways and may as well add a new master cylinder, you can get better brake pads and cross drilled rotors for our f250's.
do you have to remove the axles? they should just bolt on the backing plate and the drum should slide off never did the rears yet but i am looking into the disk brake conversion from Jeff's Bronco Graveyard
