I had a leak running down the back end of my oil pan also. While looking I found the oil pan flange nut to be very loose and leaking and I had moisture in the valley on top of the motor just behind the fuel bowl/HPOP. I tightened the flange nut and stopped that leak. I felt around the fuel bowl and HPOP until I discovered the source of the leak to be the fuel bowl drain valve orings.
I would have bet money that I strictly had an oil leak when I first discovered the drip. Turns out I had both a fuel and oil leak. The drips were as black as the oil at a 5000 mile oil change.
After replacing my fuel bowl drain valve orings I cleaned the valley really well with simple green and the garden hose. Now the valley is completly dry and I have no more moisture on the oil pan.
So, for me, the drips were a combination of oil and fuel from two diffrent sources. The good news is I fixed the oil pan flange leak for free and the drain valve leaks for $1.47.
I hope this helps! Hang in there. You will find it. I hope its an easy fix!
Well everyone, I'm done. I am no longer going to waste my time trying to find this stupid oil leak. I spent an hour today crawling all over the engine looking AGAIN, but to no avail. For some odd reason I can make my friggin Mustang run 9's, but I can't find a damn oil leak in my truck! It just doesn't make any sence. Now I'm forced to wait until next week and bring it to the dealer and let THEM find it.
wow sorry to hear about your oil leak problem! ive done the dealer thing too! wish there was a quick fix for u? but info only goes so far.than you got too do what you have to do to get it fixed! good luck!
Mine was a cracked turbo pedestal, dealer used that UV blacklight stuff to find it, maybe check yours
You know it really wouldn't suprize me but, the truth is I could spend a bunch more time looking at it trying to figure it out. Right now I'm in the middle of adding a 1700 sq ft two story addition to my house. (well my brother in law and myself are doing it) and I've lost too much time with this anyway. I really need to get the house done for the family so I'll concede and let the dealer play with it now. It's just kind of frusterating though.
But I will post what was wrong with it so it might be able to help someone with this problem later. That's the whole point, right? Learn and help learn, I'm all for helping out when I can.
I just really want to say thanks to everybody for trying to help with this and I have learned a lot. I'm going to spend a bunch more time here trying to help others and to get to know everyone the best I can.
Jim, I understand your time limited. Like I have said with my leak, it took me a few days to find it and it was a simple tighten a plug on the back of one of the heads. But you have to do what you have to do.
hey guys! I still have an oil leak on my engine. I replaced the HPOP seals. I cleaned it and drove the truck and found there to be the same amount of oil as before i changed the seals. I was wondering if anyone thought it could be the quick disconnect line that leads into the HPOP. And, if so, where I might be able to find a new one.
i agree with Jim, i chased an oil leak for DAYS!!! checked everything and dang if it wasn't one of the caps for accessing the high pressure oil rail, like the ones you remove when putting in the HPX. there was not much residue around it so i couldn't see it per se but when i put a wrench to all of them i found one loose. tightened it back up washed the engine again and low and behold, no more oil drippage. i think that under heat and pressure it was misting oil and then running down the back of the engine. since it wasn't pouring, it was very hard to detect. Please check all of these plugs with a wrench before you give up!!! HTH
Well, I just picked up the truck from the dealer. CPS is changed and so is the HPOP.....BIG Leak...Cracked....Ugly.
After all of the time that I spent looking for the leak, it wound up being the HPOP. It wasn't leaking from the seals, it was cracked in the back of it so it was spraying oil to the back of the engine somehow. My "service advisor" replaced it and changed the total bill to $330.00 OUT THE DOOR!!! Don't ask me how...but he is a GOD in my book...
I really want to thank everyone for helping with this problem. You pointed me in the right direction, but I guess that I needed another set of eyes to see it though. You guys are great! THANKS!!
Jim
so the dealer replaced the HPOP and the CPS and only charged you $330 total? Wow, something is definitely wrong there, but it has surely worked out in your favor!! i am just glad that you got it fixed and at a steal i might add!!
