what is this???

ok i found a 2002 f250 diesel in town. it is an extremely nice truck lariat lifted with fox shocks, has mickey thompsan rims, lariat and has 71,000 on it. went and checked it out. it is very clean interior just needs vaccumed. was traded into a bmw place so im gonna talk em down on the price. i was just curious what this is though??? i crawled under it. There is not leaks or anything coming from the engine, tranny or rear. The only stuff i saw was on the tubing going to the turbo.this is the only thing i noticed wrong on the truck... the engine was a little dirty so im assuming some of it was dirt sticking to the fluid. we had a horrible wind storm going on this sunday. any help would be appreciated.

Just oil from the intercooler. The crankcase breather vents into the intake and causes oil residue to get into the intercooler tubes. Any stock psd that hasnt had the engine compartment detailed will have the same looke.

That looks like normal oil seepage from the intercooler boots. The ccv ( crank case vent ) goes from the little dog house on the drivers side valvecover to the air intake right before the turbo so any oil vapor gets sucked into the the turbo and through the intercooler & tubes . So it does build up after awhile but it is nothing to worry about. A lot of us 7.3 guys modify that setup into an old style draft tube nomore oil residue on the pipes.

Normal, maybe on a truck that is stock and not clean on a fairly regular bases. That oil/dust is on the cold side and usually not much oil makes it that far. That much oil in that location would cause me to look elsewhere for the oil leak. Most of the time the oil from the CCV would show at the first boot (rubber hose) after the turbo on the drives side. From what I can see, that one looks clean. If you want to take some more and clearer pics and post, we may can tell more. At the very least, if you buy in, start by cleaning and tightening all the boots. This will give you back the boost you may be losing and stop some of that oil mess. Good luck and let us know if you have any questions
