One thing I intended w/ my evolving post is to offer suggestions, information, and experiences that might keep some of the new owners from experiencing as many failures. I do not believe that things are totally inevitable or that we are completely powerless to avoid the major problems, so I hope to gather more and more suggestions from ya'll.

Obviously the usefullness of this thread is already beginning to fade since no new 6.0L trucks are being sold, but I do think that a few more years of benefit can be had for new owners.

bismic, thanks for the info. I am new to the 6.0 and will need all the help I can get. I had a 97 powerstroke and eat up all the info I could from that forum, and plan on doing the same here. So keep the good info coming.

Thanks to everybody who keeps this site the resource that it is. rc
For everyone interested in the average and max readings, I have made a first pass (thanks to TX25025 for much of the input) and posted it all in another post - link below:

Normal and Max Temp and Press Readings

Be sure and send some rep points to TX25025 for his input on the temps:

If you go to a USER's post and you think it is a good post (good info, user went above and beyond, etc.) then you can click the Scales in the top right hand corner of THEIR post. A window will come up and allow you to click APPROVE or DISAPPROVE of their post and make a comment.

Always make a comment (gives the user more points) and click approve. You should not click DISAPPROVE (give negative points) in my opinion just because it could come back to haunt you (user will always be watching for you).

I'm glad I found this site/forum/thread.

I'm in the process of buying an '04 F-350SD w/6.0. This will be my first Ford diesel. (I got 250,000 out of my GMC 6.2L... and she's still running like a top. Careful driving habits, proper fluids/change intervals, and PM go a long way).

The vehicle I'm buying has 86K on the odometer, but she seems to be a good, solid ex-corporate drive.

BISMIC,
any reason why all the links in your posts are coming up NO PAGE FOUND ?
Probably some reason on my end, but everything else on the site works.
You've some great links to manuals and more I'd luv to get into.

The thread is 8 years old, unfortunately many of the external links have been moved or deleted. Most of the stuff in the Tech folder still works or has been updated, you can probably find what you need in there.

I just realized, hopefully you didn't find this thread in the Tech folder

Do you guys still recommend not letting your truck idle for more than 10 minutes? My truck has 207k miles 7081.9 engine hours. What does that say about my idling? My brother had the truck for 2 years and I have no idea how many hours were on it prior to him buying it but I know he'd let it idle for a very long time.
