Well I can tell you these glass shops otta get their **** together. I went to 3 different shops, two in Penticton and then I remembered we actually have one here.
First one(they quoted me the $60 difference) nope can't upgrade your windshield as per ICBC.
Second one(independent Penticton shop) sure you can for $102 difference and ICBC will replace for deductible only.
Third one(local guys) sure you can for $70 and will have to pay the difference next time windshield is replaced.
I called ICBC today to find out the real story since I heard so many.
I pay the extra when I upgrade the windshield. If I need to replace the new one ICBC will cover the complete cost because that is what is in the truck.
I've never used the ICBC claim system for a windshield replacement.I've heard different stories, some guy's say it's not worth it because your deductible just goes up.
na, sedly, they are just pulling your leg. windshield has a clause to replacement compared to collision deduct that you pay. let me explain. on your icbc insurance form you'll see that windshields are under the collision deduct of min 300.00, BUT the windshield is exempt and you generally only pay 200.00.(you should see that info also on your paper) it in no way has any effect on your insurance from there, as you are allowed upto one w/s replacement a year. on most vehicles though, all other glass is under the 300 deduct and most glass guys can replace the other glass for well under the 300.
on rare occasions some can even replace w/s for under the 200 deduct. go figure.

I am undersanding now. Then it's worth it.Thank's for enlighting me.
I have a guy in Abbotsford that will replace a w/s for me for $200 (inc tax). Not worth the headache of trying to go thru ICBC... I hate those b@stards anyway.
I had one done when we moved back from Alberta. It cost less than 300 bucks. My superduty they say is over $500. One thing I wonder is why the first question they ask is this insurance. Makes you wonder if they have two prices.

Most places do, if it is an insurance claim, chances are the price is going to be alot higher... Go to another window shop, and tell them it is an insurance claim, just to see what the price difference is. Or better yet, the place your at, send the Wife in to enquire.

Most guys actually do. There is the insurance price.(the price that the insurance will pay out to the shop on your behalf, wich is the prefered method for the shop. Why? Because the shop makes about 2 the profit. On the other hand there is the over the counter price(just incase you don't have insurance, and the shop doesn't want to lose your bussiness, and still make some money.) What the shops don't want to do though is get on the bad side of icbc, cause they will drop the price they pay out to the shops.
On the other hand, some shops will just use the icbc price anyway for over the counter price, and still make all that money.

when you do this just make sure that the glass they use is not a foreign made w/s. They have way less quality, (when looked at at and angle you can see the inperfections, waves) and they are thinner, which means they will prob break way easier.
Most of the shops now have "glass express", which means you go to the shop and they process your claim, and no trip to the icbc office, or you can still go to icbc first and get your claim form and then go to shop to fix.(this is often a drive in, and 3 min latter, drive out process.
