Guys, as you know BANKS warrantied my rusted 9 year old exhaust. I just installed my new headers friday, and I have a question. On the driver side header it comes awfully close to the firewall. There is black insulation on the firewall in this area and no heat shield. I called BANKS and they said it was ok. However being as its a used truck I don't know if someone took out a heat shield that was supposed to be there. Can someone with a BANKS kit please just look at the driver side header and tell me if there is supposed to be heat shield between it and the firewall. I do not mean the stainless steel heatshield that protects the gas/brake lines. I have that installed. I can provide a picture if you want. Thanks for any help you guys can provide, I'm taking the truck for an 8 hour road trip on saturday and i need it to you know, not catch on fire
I own a 2004 Ford F250 FX4, 6.8L V10, 8inch lift, 38inch Tires, & all the banks power pack stuff they had to offer including the PCM Programer, Transmission programer/shift controller and converter as well. with some other stuff. On the driver side of my truck as well it comes close to the fuel lines and the firewall. The firewall has factory heat cloth applied to the underside. You can buy this yourself and apply it to the underside of the body. For added protection I would deff do it. The heating and cooling of the body panel raw metal over a long period of time will fatigued the metal. I also bought high intensity ceramic primer and paintand I painted the whole exhaust with the proper baking temp and time and on top of that I bought DEI high heat header wrap and ties and completely wrapped the exhaust clear back under the cab also I deleted the catalytic converter as well. I also added the header wrap over the fuel lines and trans lines and any where else That there could be a issue with the heat. If you use the header wrap also buy the silicon spray and apply it to all the header wrap this will help stop the header wrap itself to absorb water/moister and dirt in other word repel it..make sure tho the silicon spray is dry before you start the truck otherwise you will burn off it not all of it. It will smoke a little. The exhaust will smoke a little due to the packing grease, the paint and the silicon spray.

sorry bout that really didnt answer your question the heat shield on my truck 2004 Ford F250 V10 I had to unbolt the sway bar from the sway bar link that attached to the frame and inserted the supplied hardware as per instructions sent with the kit. If you dont have the set instruction banks offer them free on their website.
