CAT removal

I was told by the FORD dealer that if your truck has a CAT it has to have one. Something about enough exhaust back pressure to burn all the fuel. He also said if you remove the CAT you will have to reprogram the computer. Is any of this correct or was that just the dealer being politically correct.

you didn't have to do anything with the comp. How hard is it to gut one?

Legally if it came with one it has to have one. BUT I don't have one, my engine hasn't melted down, my PCM hasn't been recalled and it burns all the fuel it needs except when I want it to blow some smoke

An easy pass would be to gut the cat but the empty cat still causing poor flow with the chamber affect but you could sleeve the gutted cat. with either 3.5 or even better 4 inch pipe. just cut the cat body where 4 inch pipe will slide thru then weld the pipe to the body on each end. So pretty much you have an empty shell with a pipe going right thru the center.
