2000 Excursion 5.4 XLT: Does anyone have a lead on the relay that is related to dome lights working?
I believe the part # is interchangable with the one that lets the power windows work. I hate paying almost $40 a pop from FORD.
Here's my problem:2000 Excursion 5.4 XLT . The interior lights only work when they are turned on at each switch in the overhead panel. They DO NOT work when any of the doors are opened or when I turn the dial on the dash switch to activate them. ANY IDEAS?
don't have a wiring diagram. But sounds like the switch or maybe the relay. the relay should be the easiest to check. If and big IF you have similar relays that you know are working just switch them around if that works youve found the problem if not look at the switch a little harder. Good hunting
but do the dome lights work? now check fuses for windows and dome. if the dome works and the windows don't it was that relay. if both don't work then I would say relay is bad and you probably blew a fuse on the dome frst and the the window when you switched relays around. replace relay and fuses, and it should be good to go.
I replaced the relay for the power windows, now they are working again.
The dome lights work only when turned at each local switch.
They are not working when the doors are opened or when I use the dimmer switch on the dash (at the headlight switch)?????
Ok just tried this on my own X . Under the steering column, in the fuse access panel there are four relays two small ones and two large ones. the two small ones left hand side top are #1 your dome light relay and #2 the battery saver relay if the dome relay is removed ( loose /bad ) the dome lights will work but only at their own respective switches, not with the dash or door. try switching relay 1 & 2 and see if the dome then works* NOTE I do not know what the battery saver feature controls, but it should be ok for a short test only. if the dome lights work after the switch replace the bad relay with a new one don't leave them "switched " Good Luck
After replacing the dome light relay for a second time, everything is working as it should. thanks for the help. I'm not sure what is related to what, but I found blown fuses for what is labeled as the accessory power outlet.
