I beleve you have to pull the axle half from the passanger side to get to the outter one and then you have to pull the diff to get to the inner one I would sugest you buy a hanse manual if you don't allready have one.
You have to;
1. Remove Tire
2. Remove Caliper And Rotor
3. Remove Spindle ( 6 nuts ) and FUN to remove! ( Friend of mine loaned me his slide hammer for spindles and made it alot easier ) But I have done it without one. Just don't hit the spindle with a hammer!
4. Passenger side axle has a boot near inner joint and is sleeved inside boot. You need to mark it's position before seporating. Then just pull the axle out and replace the outer joint. To replace the inner joint near the sleeve you have to remove the front Diff.
Drivers Side > After you remove the spindle the axle will pull right out of the diff!

Just curious about marking the position... my '84 Ranger has the same setup except its a Dana 28. The passenger axle has one "double spline" so that it will only go in one way. Just curious if that is not the case with the newer ones (thinking about down the road when I have to do this on my '94 Explorer)
The reason you are supposed to mark the shaft at the slip yoke is so you keep the joints in phase. You don't have to mark it, just keep the joints in phase. If you don't have them in phase with each other you will bind and break, but for those who didn't know that it's just easier to mark it. When you take the spindle off get spare set of spindle nuts so you can hit on them. That works better than hitting on a wooden block and you will only ruin those nuts.
I was not sure if mine was keyed or not on my 94, so I marked it before I removed the axle. After removel I saw it was not keyed.
Not sure about the older ones.
Very interesting... that's some good info. I marked my '84 Ranger's axle the first time I took it out and then found it was keyed so I didn't bother from then on. Good to know the newer ones aren't.
