I'm picking up a 2005 Expedition XLT in the next couple of days. It has 32K mi. on it. It looks and drives great, but the tires are almost bald on the inside, so I know I'm going to need a new set. Brake pads were just replaced all around. Any Maintenance items or problems I need to be aware of? I'm going to pull the owners manual and look over the scheduled maintenance, but I'm hoping to get some pointers on things to look for from you experienced Expedition owners out there.
if it has a power memory seat, i would work it back and forth a bit to make sure it operates properly. i bought my wife an 04 eddie bauer 4x4 5.4L , and after the dealer implied 3,000 mile warranty was over the seat would get stuck in my seat setting and my wife is alot shorter than me so she could not drive it until it decided to work again. i looked it up on here and there is a TSB posted on that repair. if you are going through a dealer maybe have them check it out. the tire wear is the same on mine, always wearing faster on the inside. other than that, we love the vehicle, plenty of power and a joy to drive. hope this helps out.
If you start hearing a clunk from the front end that you'd assume is a loose or damaged sway bar end link, take it to Ford. I had this problem and right off the bat thought it was the end links, so I tightened them up and the noise stopped. A week later it started coming back and got worse than it originally was. Took it to Ford and they replaced both lower A-Arms up front. There's a TSB on it so apparently it's a fairly common problem. This was on an '05 also.
Thanks for the quick response, guys. I'll check these out as soon as I can after I pick it up. I plan to have my tire shop check the brakes, including rotors as well as the front end (ball joints, etc.) while it's up on the rack.
