transmissions

well guys it seems like i'm starting to save up a little bit of money so that when this transmission goes (still doesn't really slip...) i can get a new one in a very short period of time.... SO!!!! what should i go with?!?! i would prefer something that can stand up to at least 550hp and over 1000 ft lbs of torque (considering future mods of course) and i was lookin at suncoast and i don't know if the price they put ($2572) for a transmission can hold that much power and torque... and they don't give a price for their converters so i'm not sure if that's included....
SO what i'm asking is if anyone has any input on a not-so-expensive transmission can fullfill my needs and how much it'll cost me!! thanks guys

at just over $2500 I would bet a converter is not included.

Of course there is the almighty BTS if you have the coin!

You could also buy a rebuild kit from RacerXautomotive.com and have a local shop do the work.

Factorytech monster box is also an option. John woods in CA as well.

I am going through the same thing right now. BTS will set you back $3900, plus shipping it to you + shipping your core to them + installation if you don't do it yourself. (yikes)

Suncoast has them listed at $2572 + $1100 for single disc converter or $1300 for triple disc converter + shipping to you + shipping back the core + installation if you dont do it yourself.

I dont have $5k to drop on a tranny so I'm letting a local guy do it for $1500 if I take it out and give it to him, and reinstall it myself. It comes with a 2 year warranty. I will have about $2000 total once i buy the oversized cooler and fluids / extra deep pan.

BTS & Suncoast make GREAT products, you just have to decide what works best for you and your wallet (or your wife, such as in my case) hehehe....

yeah see the suncoast will actually cost THE SAME as the BTS once you include the converter hahaha and if we got into ATS i'd be looking at like 7k into a tranny.... obviously i'd do it myself as i've done everything else myself on this truck so far (the most in-depth things i've done were intercooler and injectors... not too difficult haha)
the only issue i have is that i'd rather not deal with BTS again.. last time it took them over 2 months to finally let me know if they got my core and when they would charge back my credit card...
so i guess i have a new question... how much abuse can the suncoast take?? i know BTS is known for the high-hp and torque capabilities but i thought i heard of some suncoast issues....

man it's good to be back on the forums hahaha

Why not just drive to Lead Hill and let BTS install the tranny? the shipping both way will likely equal the fuel cost and the area is very nice to visit. BTS charges the same if they install or ship.

Tell you what Glasseater my Jasper is a solid tranny. I had them upgrade and tweak a few things, had a friend at his shop order it and put it in for me for $2500 w/3yr warranty. Shifts great and ive got no prob pulling 10k lbs+ forklifts, trackhoes, backhoes you name it.

I have talked to several of the tech guys at Suncoast. They seem very confident and intelligent about the products they sell. Also, they manufacture their own Torque Converters, which shows their capability with technicality. (though I am sure they are not perfect). I would simply call them - tell them what you are looking to do with your truck (& in the future) and see what they recommend. They were very upfront with me.

Although if I were to put one together, I would probably go with the Suncoast tranny and the Converter from Precision Industries. They make the converter that BTS puts in their transmissions. In fact, Brian @ BTS had a hand in the design (or so i have read from a few threads around here).

I believe the Precision Industries converter is around $1050 + shipping. (But there is no core).

Hope this helps.

but you don't have twice the stock hp and torque running through your tranny.... that's my issue hahaha i'm in awe at how long this stock tranny has lasted.....

I would highly recommend BTS. I dont run one of thier transmissions, but will when the other truck needs a trans put in. They are great people and stand behind their work.
