I know that my vacuum hoses for the 4 X 4 are shot, and I cannot lock the hubs, but I need to know whether or not if I replace the hubs to aftermarket, do I have to have all the vacuum lines re-run?
if you switched to manuel I don't why you would need to unless the trasfer case is vacume also, I think it is electric......but someone else can give a better answer...
The tx case is electric but why switch. Just clean the hubs and replace the vacuum lines. I have 140,000 miles on my 2000 7.3 4x4 and the auto system works great. However if you want to switch to manual,, just plug the vac lines and replace the hubs with manual. Then when you get to mud, ice etc.. just get out and manually switch the hubs. However if you keep the auto,, just stay in the cab and throw the switch.
To replace the lines and clean up the hubs, what should I be looking to pay? Also, should I go to a 4 X 4 shop or the dealer? (I think I know the answer to this one)
I'm not sure any shop will clean the hubs,, they will want to replace at about $300 ea.
The vac lines cost me $4.00 and run from the chassy to the wheel hub only on the front wheels. This is about a 15 minute job without jacking the truck. Just turn the wheel hard right then left and you should be able to reach in and replace the vac hose.
For the hubs there is a guzzle site that gives details on how to do this. It is relatively easy work without jacking the truck. Removing the hub is about 5 minutes with only 1 snap ring then the hub will be in your hand.
So I would not take this to a shop very easy work.
