I have been thinking about a laptop mount for my Excursion for a long time now. But this is the neatest little thing I have seen. I like it because it can be moved from car to car.
I'm too long legged to be able to use one of those - it's too wide. I bought some of the non-skid foam that you can get at any auto parts store and put a piece of it on the top of the console. I used the DeLorme mapping program with a Tripmate GPS and the laptop won't budge, even in hard stops. Plus, I'm able to keep the armrest down.

I can't visualize what you are saying. Why would legs make any difference?

On top of the console? Seems like an akward place to be.

Sorry, I didn't look closely enough at the picture - I didn't realize that the surface height was that high. I'm 6'7" which is why I drive the Excursion as a daily driver. My long legs don't fit well in most vehicles. Actually, the laptop on top of the console works great for our uses, but it looks like that's a nice accessory.
I bought a laptop 'gizmo' from JotoDesk for my Grand Cherokee and jury-rigged it to fit when I traded into my Excursion. It worked very well and was nice when I was using my topo software out on the mountain trails. It set the laptop nicely between the seats, just in front of the dash (had to fold the screen to get to radio and climate controls).
Trying to figure out how to make it work in the new Expy EL (and I'm not holding out much hope).
