Never say never. Measure it. I know someone locally who just converted an 89 pickup to a dually (I bought the Sterling rear from him). I don't know the source or year of the dually rear end he used.
Cab and chassis trucks have a 34" frame and 2.5" wide springs.
The rear axle is the same axle housing as a SRW truck uses, the only difference is the spring perches are in a different location.
Dually axles are 4" wider than a SRW axle when measured from the same locations on both axles and use 3" wide springs.
All trucks that left the factory with a pickup box installed have 37.5" frames and 3" wide springs.
So yes the axle will fit your truck, you have to move the spring perches out 2" on both sides.
Then the cab and chassis axle will be exactly like the one you have on your SRW truck now, and you will be able to run SRW.
You need to find a dually axle to run DRW though.
Thanks Dave - I will just reclaim the perches and weld them on in the correct location. Saves me from finding another rear....which is not hard to get in my area but they want 500-700 for them.
Thanks fine. My rig is SRW already. I just got a good deal on a cab and chassis with a factory turbo motor.
I will have to motor out next week and am going to send it to a shop to chekc the heads and block. Its going through coolant now, none in the oil and no oil in coolant. Not sure what it is at this time.
