I bought a 1972 F-100 yesterday that had a 460 engine in the back that the guy just gave me and am wondering what info I could find out about it. It has DOVE-9425-b, F-4 on the intake,D0VE-C on the heads, and 460,and 13 on the block. From what I have learned from this forum so far is that this is a 1970 lincoln 460 with a 4 barrel. But would like to know what cc heads they are and a recomedation of cam. Thanks
No I am not interested in selling but have a question for anyone that knows, after tearing into this motor I found that it has a 4U crankshaft and the book I have How TO build Ford V8 engines it shows that to be a 429.Can anyone confirm this?
Yeap.. If it's a 4U crank, then it IS a 429 crank.. which leads me to believe it's a 429.
The only diff between the 429 is the crank(and attatched stuff, like rods and pistons, of course). The stroke is shorter, which leaves you with a higher-revving engine, great for a street/strip vehicle.
Have fun! and KEEP it!

14.29@103.8, 13-14 mpg heheheheheh
yep, rods are the same in both motors. both are 6.605" long, the only difference is the pistons and crank. also, they have the same bore at 4.360"....doesn't the chrysler 360 use the same stroke as the 429 at 3.59?
Further clarification: the wrist pin height is also different. On a 429, the pin is located higher up on the piston, or closer to the ring landings. So....if you put a 460 piston on a 429 crank, it will smack the head! Good Luck with the build.
