Headers

I just installed a set of headers on my 95 with the 5.8L.
I have seen alot of negitive post about Summit headers but mine went on with no problems. No leaks and a good fit. I also notice more power! Now I need to take it out for a good drive and check the MPG.

I got shorty headers from Summit. Got them coated at HPC. They look great. I heard the same press you did. I did have problems with the bolts getting loose after time. I had the same problem on my old Bronco with high doller Edolbrock headers. I recomend you use lock washers. No problem after that. I will say that I didnt see any great improvement with MPG or power on either set of headers. I think the shorty's dont offer much over stock. (except they dont crack) I recomend high temp wires and the boot protectors.

running headers alone wont give much improvment. you must replace the stock Y pipe and anemic exhaust from there out. glad you had good luck with those. i for one didnt when i had them on my 302 but that was time ago and quality might have improved in the last 5yrs

doubtful, its not only the cat but the construction of the Y pipe itself. its small and not mandrel bent tubing which makes a major difference.

Truck running good here. As said before replaced headers. Just got back from exhaust shop and the had made a custom Y-Pipe and Put it on to a High Flow Cat. Feeding in to a Flowmaster Delta 40 with duel outlet. Sounds SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, the truck was given to me with no cats and I have plans to make it emissions legal with a good y-pipe, but since I have no money I am happy with what I have.

Ditto, that stock Y is pretty bad!!!! I would guess all the flow is allready killed before it eaven GOT to the cats!!!

As for the headers. I got the summits also, and they seemed pretty well made. Nice welds, good plug access [better then the stock CI manafolds]I cant speak for how well they line up to the exoust, becouse I made my own Ypipe.

I just want to warn you, I retorqued my bolts sevral times and they still kept getting loose. I put the lock washers on and presto, they stayed tight. If you let them get loose and it gets a leek, you have to replace the gasket. You cant just tighten them. PITA
