I got a squeek the other day, pulled the tire and my rotor goes up and down, nothing moves but the rotor, studs and hub? If i tear this thing all the way down, how many bearing are there? Wheres a good place to get them?
Ps what the trick to getting the rotor off? Mines not budgin. THX
on getting a stuck on rotor off take a ball peen hammer on the ball side and smack in between the studs this usually breaks the rust free that is holding it on and allows you to get it off. Not 100% but a place to start and does work a lot.
hammer the outside eges of the rotor, the non braking surface. Or using a piece of wood between the hammer and rotor, smack directly on the braking surface.
sweet thanks, kris have you had to redo your bearings? I hear that lift kits can kill them quick? I saw that autozone has an inner and an outer bearing and napa has only one?
Ben
You are going to need the whole unit. The bearings themselves are not serviceable. Not to hard of a job. Just hit the rotor as expained above and good luck.
do NOT smack the outside edge of the rotor that is a big NO NO, the rotors are cast and they WILL break very easily (I have seen I don't know how many guys do that, sure it gets them off so you can now replace it.
If you think you are going to go through bearings, because of your lift.I would get them from a store that offers lifetime warrenty as opposed to the usual 2yr.I got mine at Car Quest with lifetime.$350.each side.
Im sorry maybe I mis-understood your post.I thought you were talking of the wheel bearing assembally. It has needle bearinds that the axles ride on,along with the wheel bearing unit. Its a self contained unit that is not serviceable. If you are talking of something else than my bad.
Benny the needle bearing your looking at is the one that goes inside the hub that the axle shaft itself rides in, but it won't cause the symptoms you describe what you need is the wheel bearing unit. it's a sealed non servicable unit.
Here is the NAPA site description of it. the price listed there is over $400 but when I bought it at the local napa I got it for $272 http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPage...+-+Front+Wheel
Thanks guys for your help Hub assembly replaced, in about an hour. I had better luck at getting mine off than guzzle i guess. Big rep points for my napa guy who got me the bearing for 260$. Those things retail for 650$
Anyway thanks again for FTE, and another repair/mod done without the need of the dealer. You guys
Glad to hear it, and Yeah the mark up on these things is stupid rediculas IMO. You did even better then I did, My napa guy got me mine for $272, but maybe your in a bigger market area with better discounts. But anyway congrats and glad it's all back running again.
