We can agree to disagree on trannies then.
I will say that will be running a c6 in the ranger - behind a mild 302. I would have put a th400 behind it if I could have afforded the $3500+ up front, but I was cheap and got a freshly rebuilt race c6 for $1k.
According to my tranny guy (he built the one I bought) I will end up paying the difference in the end though seeing as c6's don't hold up to abuse as much and therefore cost more in the long run from being rebuilt more. This info is from my tranny guy who builds the race trannies for things like this http://pix.race-dezert.com/displayim...lbum=227&pos=5 that have 600-800+ hp and get a few feet off the ground regularly!
This is in a VERY extreme application though. A c6 should be fine for the "average Joe".
If you end up wanting to run a c6 behind the cummins I would talk to a tranny guy about it - I have heard the th400's behind the diesels ran a different valve body than the ones behind gassers, and the c6 might need a valve body tweak or something to work well.
well to add my 2 cents, they're cheep, and will bolt right in using your trans, find a f7000 they ran a 3208 cat 5 speed 2 speed rear, wiring will be similar, not a race motor, but low grunt and will last, and damn near have one givin to you
